Today I’m sharing a card I created for the class Beautiful Details as part of the Altenew Educators Certification Program. And this class stretched my skills and how I looked at using stamps.

This class uses stamps to create different images by doing second generation stamping and then adding lines with liner pens. It also demonstrates how to add lots of little details and shading while still utilizing layered stamps to guide the way.

I never created this much detail in a single flower before. Let me share with you how I created this card.

All of the products used for this card are linked at the bottom of this post.

First, I stamped the outline of the flower in a midtone warm gray. Then, I stamped the first of the detail layers in the lightest warm gray ink. This gave me a really great guide to where I needed to add shading but was able to cover it up with colored pencil.

Working one petal at a time, I colored in the flower. I used Polychromos pencils in warm gray colors. I added shadow and a few detail lines where the petal wrinkles first. Then, I added more subtle shading in the middle of the petal and added more detail in the darker areas. I colored in the entire petal with my lightest color.

I really like strong outlines on my images. It’s a personal preference so I outlined each petal with a really sharp pencil in my darkest color.

I colored in the leaf the same way.

To complete the card, I stamped a background in the same ink as the flower but made sure it wasn’t perfect. Then, I inked a strip of white cardstock in a darker gray towards the bottom of the card front. I stamped the sentiment in dark black ink.

I popped the flower up on some foam tape and glue the leaf in place. And as a final little touch I added some Nuvo drops around the flower.

I was seriously intimidated by this class but I’m super happy with the detail in the flower and leaves for this card. It’s even more gorgeous in person. Thanks for joining me today. If you’d like to take this same course you can check it out here.
