A Little About Me – Jill
Picture a little girl about 7 years old with her great-grandfather in an office supply store. This was me every single Wednesday from the age of 7 until 9. My great-granddaddy Roy took me to and from piano lessons every week. After piano lessons, we would go into town and to one of the two office supply stores. Granddaddy bought me 5 sheets of colored paper and one pen or marker every week. Then, we went to KFC and ate Chicken Little Sandwiches (remember those?) and mashed potatoes.
Granddaddy fed my love of all things paper and ink at a very young age. I drew pretty pictures all the time. I painted mountains and trees trying to copy Bob Ross. I tore up paper into tiny pieces, added water, and made my own textured papers.
I discovered scrapbooking when I was in high school. I took pictures of everything and everybody. The pictures weren’t all that great but still, I tried. I scrapbooked everything! Then, I didn’t. I didn’t make a single thing for many years in my early twenties. My crafty stash went from a file box to a few file boxes to an entire room but I never made anything. I just became a collector of pretty papers.
How it all started…
Like many stampers, I started out as a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator. I soon discovered all of the different stamp companies out there in the great wide world of stamping and wanted ALL things. I’ve been stamping and making cards for about 20 years.
I love card making! It’s just that simple. It brings together all of the things I love about scrapbooking together…without the hassle of taking pictures. I’ve learned a great deal about stamping and card making over the years, which I want to share with you!
The Blog…
I started blogging in my mid-thirties just to share some cards and as a different creative outlet. It’s evolved and changed over the years to include ideas for stamping, techniques for card making, coloring techniques for Copic markers, and how to incorporate using a Silhouette Cameo into card making. Something I didn’t know until I started this blog was how much I enjoy teaching others how to do this amazing craft. No other craft gives you the opportunity to learn so many different techniques or work with so many different mediums.
Stamping and card making…
My goal first and foremost is to share card making with others in an enjoyable environment. One thing that drew me to Stampin’ Up! was the teaching aspect of it. And I miss teaching people how to stamp and make cards in that one-on-one environment. My blog is a way for me to continue to teach from the comfort of my home and your home too.
Copic coloring…
Secondly, I enjoy coloring on my cards. I color something in some manner on every single one I feel like. To me, coloring isn’t just with markers or pencils but includes watercolor or any other medium that adds color and contrast to your cards. I color primarily with Copic markers but love colored pencils too.
Custom SVG designs…
And third, I like to find the least expensive way to get the best results for my cards. I use a Silhouette Cameo to die cut some things and create custom pieces to add dimension to my cards.
