It’s been a serious hot minute since I’ve been able to sit down and make a card or for that matter catch my breath. It’s been a rough few months BUT I’m back and have more projects coming your way! I’m going to be doing things a little different than I used to for simplicity sake and to save some time since I’ve gone back to working full-time outside of the home.

There’s no video for this card because well I totally failed to stay in frame for most of the card. Oops! I was so focused on coloring and enjoying the process of coloring again that I failed to look at where my paper was on the table in relation to the camera. I’ll do better next time.

Today I’m sharing a project for the Aud Sentiments Challenge Blog. This next two week’s theme is Masculine with a sentiment. The sponsor for this challenge is Dr. Digi’s House of Stamps.

I did something a little different this time around. I picked an image that is actually a woman on a motorcycle. Now, you’re probably like, “Um, Jill, that doesn’t go with the theme.” In this case, it does. The image is not feminine at all and I wanted to see if I could make it even more masculine by coloring the image in a very specific way. And guess what! I am very happy with the results.

I kept my color pallet very simple and used the same colors in various combinations throughout the image. This brings all a cohesiveness to the image and allows the eye to move through the image.

As usual, I printed the image using Silhouette Studio with the registration marks turned on so that I could go back and die cut my image with a white border. I also cut the outline of the image out twice more so that I could have some heft to the image.

I kept the rest of the card simple with a simple “dude” sentiment and mat silver diamond embossed paper.

But you’re really here for is to know how to color metal and make it look a little shiny. The key to this is to use the C Copic markers. These are a cool gray color which just automatically lends to being slightly more metally looking. Just like with any Copic coloring, metal has light and dark areas.

Color the outside edges using C3. Next, color with C1. Be sure to really blend out that C3 line. Lastly, use C0 or C00 and again blend out that line. If you really want it to stand out and look super shiny, leave a white area with no color or add white gel pen.

If you want more depth in your metal object then start with C5 and work our way back to C0 or C00. I do not recommend going any darker than a C5 for something like chrome.

Don’t forget that you can also add Glossy Accents over the chrome areas for more shiny and depth. I didn’t do that in this case because I put the sentiment over the image. I did add Glossy Accents to the sentiment to make it stand out from the rest of the card.

I also added white gel pen to the headlights and the goggles. I have a silver Pilot pen that I don’t get to use that often, so I used that to add silver to the buttons and the outside edge of the outer most headlights. It didn’t show up there that well in the photos but it looks great in person.
