Hello! Today we’re taking a look at a stenciling technique. It’s really simple and you get three cards instead of just one! This is also part of the Altenew Education Certification Program and the class on Celebration Stenciling Techniques.

Three Cards for One Technique

This is as simple as it sounds. I’m using the Layered Medallion stencil set from Altenew and some Altenew Ink Spray.

Here’s a little tip for you to keep your area clean when using ink sprays. You know those cardboard boxes that you get in the mail (usually for the huge shipment of stamps you just ordered)? Cut the top flaps off it and use it as a spray booth. The one I use is about 16″ x 16″ x 5″. It keeps the ink spray from going everywhere.

First, I used some washi tape to keep the stencil in place. But tape it from the back so the paper doesn’t move. I sprayed using the lightest color first.

When you use sprays like this, there is always a ton of ink on the stencil itself. I didn’t want that ink to go to waste so I grabbed another piece of white cardstock and pressed it to the stencil.

Next, I placed the other layer of the stencil on the cardstock that I originally sprayed. This time I used a much darker color. Then I did the exact same thing to use that extra ink on the stencil.

All three stenciled images are amazingly beautiful in their own ways.

For the originally stenciled cardstock, I didn’t trim the panel down any. Instead, I used a coordinating ink color to make my own matching cardstock. Just a little strip of it. I just swiped the ink pad across white cardstock until it was a solid color. I paired it with black cardstock and a white heat embossed sentiment. Finally, I added glossy white drops.

For both of the other stenciled panels I trimmed each down and added cardstock or patterned paper to the side. I also, used black cardstock and white embossing for the sentiment.

I love how all three of these cards turned out unique but from the same set of stencils. How awesome is that?

I hope you give this stenciling technique a try.
