Window Critters Shaker Card MFT Sketch Challenge 366
I try to participate in card challenges throughout the month. The challenge could be a color scheme or a layout/sketch. MFT Sketch Challenge is a weekly card sketch challenge. Sketch Challenge 366 references the 366th challenge. Now the best thing about these kinds of challenges is it gets you to think outside the box for card creation. It might get you to use a product in a different way or use a bold sentiment.

My goal this year is to participate in as many card challenges as I possibly can so that I can become a better card maker. I want to see stamps and designs in new ways and to explore different mediums to create. When I sat down to create this card I had this brilliant idea I was going to do a rainbow background and put tags on the front with the critters on each tag. I made that card and I hated it. Trust me when I say the card was terrible. So, I regrouped. I still wanted to use the window idea and the peeking critters.
Instead of a rainbow background, I opted for a rainbow shaker card. That’s lots more fun anyway right?! When I dug through my stash I saw the Rounded Squares Frame Die-namics set. The smallest frame was the perfect size for my window idea. The Up In The Air stamp set is a hot air balloon set with the peeking critters. Just adorable!
Sketch Challenge 366 – Window Critters Shaker Card
First, I die cut 3 frames from black cardstock and die cut a piece of white cardstock using the MFT Dienamics Stitched Rectangle Stax A2 Set 1/2 for the main piece of the card.
Then, I die cut windows in the main piece of white cardstock using the same die as the black frames. Since I used the same frame die to cut the windows as the frames I needed something to hold the frames in place. I flipped the white main piece over and used some washi tape to hold the black frames into place.
Next, I needed to build the shaker part for each window. I ran some Scor-Tape around the windows and placed a piece of acetate over it. The acetate is one large piece instead of 3 smaller ones. I ran some more Scor-Tape around the rest of the card back and around the acetate so I could build craft foam around each window. The shaker mix used was tiny star confetti, tiny heart confetti, and rainbow sequins in each window. Lastly, I backed it with a lightweight white cardstock and trimmed the excess with scissors.
Each of the critters was colored using Copic markers. Each of the critters was die cut using the coordinating dies. I put some foam tape on the back of the critters and put on the front of each window as if they are peeking out through the window.
The sentiment was created using white cardstock coated in Distress Ink in Wilted Violet over it. The ‘Miss You’ sentiment was stamped in Versafine black ink and coasted it in clear embossing powder then heat set using a heat tool.
Finally, I mounted the main piece of white cardstock on a grey 110lb cardstock cardbase.
