I LOVE the look of white pencil on dark cardstock! It’s just something that I find visually appealing and I hope you do too. This is a super simple way to create a card. And the best part is you can do this technique with light colored cardstock using dark embossing powder and pencils. It’s just as pretty. Let’s take a look at how easy white pencil on dark cardstock is.

I don’t know about you but I look for inspiration every where. I’ve mentioned before that Yana Smakula is a HUGE inspiration to me. And she definitely inspired this card. Here’s a link to one of her card videos.

White Pencil on Dark Cardstock

I’m going to quickly walk you through the steps to create this kind of card and then talk about some of the options to using this same method with other colors.

First, treat the dark cardstock with an anti-static powder bag. Treat the entire panel.

Next, stamp the images in Versamark Ink or another clear sticky ink. In the video, I used Simon Says Stamp Embossing Ink. I haven’t decided if I like the ink or not. I’ll let you know if I do. Stamp all of the images at once. It’ll be easy to see the images on the dark cardstock.

Coat the panel in embossing powder and melt with a heat tool.

Color in the images a little bit or a lot with a white colored pencil.

Lastly, add a sentiment and embellishments. You’re done. Seriously, it’s just that simple.

Options to white on dark

This technique can also be used with opposite of dark on light cardstock. Here are some options:

  • Red embossing powder on light pink cardstock with red pencil
  • Black embossing powder on white cardstock with black pencil
  • Silver embossing powder on dark grey cardstock with silver pencil
  • Purple embossing powder on light purple cardstock with purple pencil

I hope you enjoyed today’s card and give it a try yourself.
