Super Quick Card Set for Mother’s Day

One thing I’ve learned in my years of making cards is that the process goes quicker if I gather all of my supplies first.  This is especially true if I plan on making more than one card. Here is a basic list of the items you’ll need to create this set of cards:

  • Card bases 4
  • Pieces of watercolor paper 4
  • Various colors of scrap paper 4
  • 4 different colors of Distress Ink to match the scrap paper
  • Gold embossing powder
  • Wild Hibiscus Stamp Set from Altenew
  • A small paint brush
  • Some clean water

First, trim down the watercolor paper to 4” x 5 1/2” panels. You can use an acrylic block to stamp your image, however, a stamping tool like a MISTI will make this process soooo much faster. Then, align the large flower stamp in the stamping tool to that it will stamp on the far right. Before you stamp your image in Versamark ink, be sure to use your anti-static powder tool on the watercolor paper.

Here’s the great thing about Versamark ink; it will stay wet long enough to stamp all four panels at the same time. Now, you will be able to coat each image with gold embossing powder and heat set each panel. If your watercolor paper warps, run it through your die cutting machine a few times. Be sure to put a piece of typing paper on either side so you don’t get any trash or marks on the paper.

Next, put one of your watercolor panels in the stamping tool. Align the sentiment near the bottom of the card and next to the flower stem. Before you start stamping, use an anti-static powder tool again. Then, stamp the sentiment in Versafine Onyx Black ink. This ink stays wet a long time as well, so stamp all four panels at the same time. Coat the sentiment in clear embossing powder and heat set.

Watercolor Flowers

The fun part is the easy watercolor for the super quick card set for Mother’s Day. Dip a small paintbrush in some clean water. Put water in the center of the flower and pull it out in the petals a little bit. Squish one of the Distress Ink pads on a non-porous surface. I use a nonstick craft mat or a really big acrylic block. Pick up the Distress Ink with the paintbrush and drop the color in the water on your flower. Keep adding ink until you’re happy with the results. Remember the color will dry lighter.

Don’t forget to add green to the stem of the flower for all of the flowers.

Lastly, use your favorite border stamp on the scrap cardstock strips. The strips are about 1/4” x 5 1/2”. Adhere the strip flat down to the card base. Adhere the watercolor panel using some foam tape or craft foam.

You don’t have to stop at four cards! This is a great way to make a super quick card set for Mother’s Day or any other event. This method even works for making quick birthday cards for an entire year! Wouldn’t that be amazing to have ALL of your birthday cards made for the entire year?! As always, thank you for joining me today!
