Alternatives to Ikea for Craft Room Organization
Craft room organization is a daunting task and all of the ideas out there include products from Ikea. What if you don’t live near an Ikea? Today we’re talking about alternatives to Ikea. I’m about 3-4 hours away from an Ikea. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE going to Ikea but I either have to drive to northern Virginia (next to DC) or North Carolina. And most days that’s just not possible. So, I’ve been hunting for the best alternatives to Ikea products for my craft room organization needs.
Now, I don’t have a picture-perfect craft room. I can’t show you pretty pictures of a decorated craft room because like most of you, I live on a budget. I tend to put my money in craft supplies instead of storage. That’s one reason I was so excited and happy to find these alternatives to Ikea for my craft room organization. We all know that one reason Ikea is so popular is because of the price point. These finds are either right around the same price or less. I’ll be implementing a few of these ideas over the next few months and I’ll be sure to share my photos.

Cube Shelving Alternative to Ikea
The Ikea Kallax cube shelving units are super popular because you can store tons of crafting supplies and the price point is great! There are tons of “accessories” from doors to drawers to outfit your Kallax unit. Is there an alternative? YES!
Wal-Mart carries identical cube shelving! The cube shelving units are made by Better Homes & Gardens. The price is the same. The measurements are the same and the units come in MORE colors than the Kallax unit. There aren’t a ton of accessories available for these units but there are a few. The best part is you can have it delivered or pick it up at your local store! Tell me that’s not a win-win.
The inside dimensions of these cube storage units are the same as the Kallax units. This means that all of those lovely inserts from Stamp-n-Storage should fit nicely in the Better Homes & Gardens unit.
If those units are a little too pricey for you, check out this tutorial from JenniferMaker.com on how to create a Paper Tower of Power. It’s super easy and you’ll get tons of storage for your 12×12 or 8 1/2 x 11 paper.
Rolling Cart Alternatives to Ikea
The Ikea Raskog rolling cart seems to be a staple in any craft room these days. I have one and love it. It is used daily! Did you know that Michael’s has one exactly like it?! And it comes in more colors! And it’s the same price as the one from Ikea! I have a Lexington cart from Micheal’s too. The only noticeable difference I can tell in the two carts is the one from Michael’s has slightly squarer baskets on it than the Ikea Raskog cart does. Michael’s Lexington Cart also has a top (sold separately) so you can put whatever you want on top of the cart and it’s mobile. You could put your die cutting machine on there!
Pegboard Alternatives to Ikea
Pegboards are a great way to utilize wall space and add tons of storage. You can add hooks and containers and all kinds of stuff to a pegboard. Ikea has the

Small Item Storage
Finding storage solutions for small things like sequins and gems is a little bit more difficult. None of my local craft stores had good options. Then I found the Darice Elizabeth Ward Bead Storage System. It’s PERFECT and customizable for what you need. There are multiple sizes of containers that all fit in very handy trays. I store all of my sequins, confetti, and gems in these containers. The tiny containers snap closed and are easy to open. It’s an amazing little storage system.
There you go! Tons of ideas for alternatives to Ikea! Whatever products you choose, make sure it fits YOUR needs and how you want your space to look. And don’t get craft room envy! You can make a space you LOVE on a budget. It doesn’t need to be super fancy. Mine isn’t. My craft room is in an unfinished basement. The rafter above me are showing and all the plumbing too. BUT I’ve created a functional and fun place to create. My room won’t win any awards but I seriously LOVE my craft room. Here’s a craft room tour I did about a year ago. Things change often down here but this is still pretty much the general layout.
