Hello! Today I’m doing some Copic Coloring. Copic coloring is one of the most relaxing things I do. It also brings a sense of accomplishment once the image is completed. I have a few tips below on how to improve your Copic coloring.

Also, I have a Copic Quick Start Guide if you’re not sure where to start with Copic markers. Sign-up to get the Guide here.

Copic Coloring

Before I get into any Copic coloring tips I’ll go over how I created this card really quickly. I printed my digital image on Neenah Solar White 80lb cardstock. Then I cut it out using my Silhouette Cameo. I also cut the shadow of the image to make is standout against the background.

For the background, I stamp the tape images from the Mixed Tape stamp set from Concord & 9th. The sentiment is also from that stamp set. I wanted the sentiment to stand out so I stamped that in black pigment ink and used clear embossing powder to emboss it.

I popped up the image and the sentiment using foam tape. The finished size of the card is 6″ x 6″.

The first tip I have for you to improve your Copic coloring is this: don’t compare your current skill to someone that’s been coloring for years. It’s great to want to aspire to that skill level but don’t think your work isn’t good because you’re not as experienced.

My next tip (and the one I struggle with most) is don’t judge your coloring when you’re only halfway through. Finish the project before you determine how you feel about it.

The third tip for the day is to practice. I know this frustrating because Copic markers, nibs, and refills aren’t cheap. But it’s the only way to get better. Color the same image a few times and then try another image. Then go back and color that first image again and compare it to the first time you colored it. That’s where you compare your work.

And my final tip is to remember this is supposed to be fun not stressful. There is no right or wrong way to color anything. Are there techniques that work better than others? Yep. Do you have to use those techniques? Nope. Enjoy the process. Enjoy the results.

I hope you give Copic markers a try and you enjoyed this fun card.
