Obviously, it’s been a long time since I’ve done any kind of card-related blog post so I’m trying to remember how the heck to do this. I shared previously that I sat down the other day and made cards with the February 2024 Club Kit release from Spellbinders for the first time in MONTHS. I continued to make cards with the stamps, dies, foiling plates, and press plates in the kit. Seven cards. I know I’m just as shocked as you.

For this first card, I embossed black cardstock with the Swirling Blooms Embossing folder. Here’s a tip; sprits your card very lightly with water to get a super crisp impression without the cardstock cracking. I stamped and Copic colored the flower image from the Lily Arches stamp set and die-cut it with the coordinating die set. The outer frame is embossed with Platinum Embossing Powder. After I die-cut the image I used foam strips to pop it up on the background.

Supplies Used

Stitching on cards is one of my favorite looks. The same die creates a bunch of different looks with different colors of cardstock or threads. Here’s a tip: Use 100lb cardstock for stitching cards. And use a tape runner to stick the thread to the back of the panel. There are four colors of pink threads and one shade of sage green. The Stitched Floral Focal Card Front die has multiple parts that can create even more cards.

A bright pop of color on top of a monotone background is a simple card to create with the Spring Stencil Set. Ink blending or embossing paste is perfect for this technique. I’m still a little old-school about stencils; I like to tape my paper to my stencil with washi tape.

Here’s the ink blending version. I added orange Nuvo Drops to the centers of the flowers and made it all pop. The shiny surface of the foil just would not photograph well.

Better Press Plates are something pretty new to me since it’s been a long while since I’ve made cards. I colored the Flutter Into Spring BetterPress Plate using colored pencil. In person these kinds of cards are beautiful. The detail and texture don’t show up in pictures.

Daffodils are the first sign of spring. I used gold foil for the Daffodil Spray foil plate. Remeber the glitter sprays in all the different colors? I have tons of them. Instead of using them as a spray, I use them as paint with a paint brush. I trimmed the panel down to 3-3/4″ wide so I could put a brigt blue, stenciled background behind it. The wax seal is so fun to create. I mixed a yellow and dark orange wax melt for the color.

This card is my least favorite that I created. It’s a little empty and I don’t like the two leaves on the front. I think it’s important to share cards we aren’t so happy with as well as those we love. I put the two die sets together: Rain Boot Bouquet and Floral Bunny Basket. One thing I do like is the Copic coloring. It’s bold and brings the die cuts to life.
