Hello! Today we are creating 3 cards using alcohol inks for Make the Cards Challenge. This week it’s a Theme challenge. The theme is Congratulations. Last week the guest designer Niki of Cardstoq created a beautiful alcohol ink card and it totally inspired me to pull out my alcohol inks. After all that’s what this challenge is all about!

Watch this video to see how these cards were created. All of the products used are linked at the bottom of this post.

Congrats Alcohol Ink Cards

Alcohol ink backgrounds are pretty simple to make. The most difficult part of making them is knowing when to stop making changes or adding more of anything.

The purple and pink cards were created with the wet-on-wet method. Start by wetting your Yupo paper with blending solution. How much or how little is up to you. Then I applied drops of various colors to the solution already on the paper.

This is the fun part! Use a blower like I did (linked below) or a straw to create movement in the ink. Add drops of lighter colors or more blending solutions where needed. I tend to break up really dark spots with blending solution.

The card in blue I dropped the color on the paper first then added blending solution. The results are similar but different at the same time. It’s difficult to explain.

On the pink card, I added some gold gilding flakes. There’s is a sweet spot during the drying process where the ink is still tacky and the flakes will stick to it but I missed that sweet spot. Instead, I used some MonoMulti glue. When you allow it to dry until it’s clear it’s still tacky. I used a sewing pin to add lines of the glue along the darkest areas of the background. Then I stuck gliding flakes to it and brushed the excess away.

The sentiment for each card is the same die cut from different cardstocks and layered in different ways.

To finish each card, I added jewels and Nuvo drops.
