I’ve been making all these amazing cards but one thing that I always forget about is an envelope! I’m fixing that issue today. I created three envelope SVGs for various sizes of cards and I’m sharing them with you.

I prefer square flap envelopes. These envelopes are sized for slimline 9″ x 4 1/4″ cards, square 5″ x 5″ cards, and an A2 card.

You’ll need to use 12″ x 12″ paper for all of the envelopes. You’ll want to use heavy-duty dry adhesive to adhere the sides of the envelope together.

There are three different envelopes including one for a slimline card, a square card, and an A2 card. There’s also a JPG file that you can print and cut out with scissors if you don’t have a Silhouette or Cricut.

You’ll also need a scoring board so you can fold in the all of the sides. The top and bottom flaps are different sizes. You can use it either way. Fold in the short flaps first and adhere one of the large flaps to two short flaps.

What kind of paper do you use to make an envelope?

So cardstock is generally too heavy for envelopes. Typing paper is too thin and let’s face it, it’s too small as well. I use patterned paper that has a white side to it. The white side goes on the outside of the envelope and the pattern goes on the inside. It’s a perfect weight!

How to seal your envelope closed

Here are several options to seal your envelope once you have it made:

  • Temporary tape runner instead of permanent
  • A liquid adhesive that’s temporary once it’s dry
  • Washi tape
  • Add brads and string
  • And lastly just glue it closed
