Today I’m sharing my card for the Altenew Education Certification Program’s Easy Die Cutting Techniques lesson. I love to find new uses for my dies and this lesson definitely stretched my background die. Let’s take a look at what I did.

I love the Altenew Halftone background die. It’s simple but bold at the same time. So, I wanted to used it a little bit differently. Instead of die cutting with it I used it to emboss my background panel. And it’s so easy!

I use a Spellbinders Platinum 6 die cutting machine. I used the embossing plate with the embossing mat instead of using the cutting plates. The order of the plates is the base plate, die (cut edge up), paper, embossing mat, and embossing plate.
Note: Each die cutting machine is a little different and might use different plates so be sure to check what your machine uses.

Then, I trimmed the edges of the panel so the edges were right up next to the panel. I used liquid glue to attach the panel to the top folding card base.

Next, I stamped images for from the Freeform Greenery stamp set in darker more muted tones. I die-cut each of the elements. Then I arranged all of the elements to the bottom stems overlapped each other a little bit. Instead of cutting off the stems under the sentiment I wanted it to peek out below the sentiment strip.

I made this a sympathy card because well we need sympathy cards too. I stamped the sentiment in embossing ink and embossed it with white embossing powder. I can’t make a card without some kind of sparkle so I added gold mirror cardstock to the bottom edge of the sentiment strip.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this easy die cutting techniques card even though I didn’t really cut anything. Hahaha! I did use that background die in a different way to create this simply amazing texture for this card. Give it try with some of your dies.
