Spellbinders’ Dogwood Etched Dies
Hello! Thanks so much for joining me today. Today, I’m using the Spellbinders Dogwood Etched Dies. It is part of the new Spring 2022 collection. This die set builds 3D flowers that look like Dogwood blooms. It also has the leaves and a branch included in the set.

I’m from Virginia which makes this the PERFECT die for me! The dogwood is the state flower. Dogwoods are a tree and the blooms are white, pink, or a mix of the two that leans a little more peachy in color. I’m using the peachy colors to color the blooms, along with some muted green cardstocks for the leaves, and a dark brown cardstock for the branch.
First, I inked the background panel (Neenah Solar White 80lb cardstock) using four different blue inks and a small blending brush. I love these kinds of brushes because you can start anywhere on the panel without having marks.
I did two layers of ink on this. I started with my lightest color and worked my way out to my darkest. And then I came back in from darkest to lightest, to blend all of my edges together and to get that really deep ink effect that I wanted from my background.
To finish off the background I splattered it with some shimmer mist.
Next, I die cut the blooms from white cardstock. I colored with Copic markers. I colored the entire piece in my lightest color. Then I added the darkest color around the very ends of the bloom. Keep the color towards the tips of the blooms and not towards the center. Once I had colored the entire bloom, I went over the entire thing with my lightest color again to blend it all back.
Before you start shaping your petals….make sure your cardstock is completely dry!!! Use a stylus or even the end of a paint brush if you don’t have a stylus to press the center of the flower petals into a shape. I use little circle motions to break the bond in the paper a little bit so it’ll hold the shape.
For the center of the flower, I went around the very edge of star shape of the kraft colored card stock and darkened that up a little bit. Then, I rolled the center of the flower using glue on one side to hold it in place.
Lastly, I foiled a sentiment and laid all of the branches and blooms on the card front to see where everything would go. Check out the video above to see how this card was created! The 3D flowers are so simple and so much fun to create with! It was my first time using these kinds of dies to make a card.
