I’m doing something a little different for me. I’m not making a card today. GASP! I’m making little paper houses using the Little Houses digital file from Scrapbook.com. I had to create these adorable houses one simple reason…I had a fairy stamp set that just had to be used with it!

I little bit about the digital file really quickly:

  • 27 files that include SVG and PNG file formats
  • 1 set of digital files for a tall house
  • 1 set of digital files for a short house
  • 1 set of digital files for a short house with a chimney
  • 1 set of digital files to customize your own house
Examples of the three main Little Houses from the Scrapbook.com website.

First, you need to know how to put these beautiful houses together and then we’ll talk about how I decorated mine and made an adorable fairy house. So check out this video and then come right back.

When I first cut the small house for the video, I used Neenah Desert Storm cardstock thinking that would show up on camera really well and then I’d cut it out of something else to make the house. Then an idea occurred to me while I was putting the house together: why not color my own house instead of using patterned papers?! And that’s exactly what I did.

I colored this after I put it together. I would highly recommend coloring the house BEFORE you put it together if that’s what you want to do.

I did not want this to look like a log cabin. Instead, I was going for more of a bark-covered little house that fairies might live in. You can use any alcohol-based marker for this method. I just happen to use Copic markers. Altenew’s Artist Markers would be a great alternative. The colors I used are really similar to some of their colors. I linked them below.

When I colored the roof I wanted to make sure there were really dark places that would contrast with the white really well. I didn’t want the snow to be all over the roof just in lines as if there were warmer spots that the roof had melted some.

To add more of that fairy feel, I created vines in greens and whites to hang from the roofline.

I added little touches like the Christmas tree, bow, and candle in the different windows.
