It’s no secret I’m a coffee drinker. So of course this week’s card for Make the Cards Challenge is all about the coffee. I created a background using the small stamps of this adorable stamp set from Sweet n Sassy Stamps.

Watch this quick video to see how easily this card came together. All of the products used, including the Copic colors, are listed at the bottom of this post.

Background with small stamps

Creating a background with small stamps can seem a little bit intimidating however it is really simple. There are few different ways you can approach this:

  • start in the middle and work your way out
  • start in a corner and work your out
  • draw lines to make ensure straight rows or columns of stamped images

For this background, I technically combined starting in the corner and then stamped in the images in rows. I didn’t draw any lines, instead I aligned my panel squared up on my mat and just eyeballed it. Don’t worry about it being perfect. Just have fun with it.

Once the background was completely stamped, I colored each of the images using alcohol markers. It’s a combination of Copic and Altenew Artist Markers.

I wanted to create that rounded look for each of the cups. Start by flicking the darkest color from the edges of the cup inward. Continue this same method with all of the colors from darkest to lightest. You can leave texture of the flicks or blend them out for a smoother look. I like the texture so I left it in.

Next, I added the coffee bean stamp in the empty spots in a dark brown ink. This is from the Coffee Blend Turnabout by Concord & 9th.

Then, I trimmed down the panel and matted it with black cardstock. This really makes the images POP! All of the panels are glued down to a top folding kraft colored notecard.

Finally, the sentiment is stamped in black pigment ink and embossed with clear embossing powder. I trimmed it out close and popped it up with foam tape.
