Today, I have a simple but cute die cut inlay heart card for you. Valentine’s Day is coming up and while I’m firm believer in showing your loved ones that you care all year around; Valentine’s Day gives us an excuse to make pretty cards. So, I’m all for it. 🙂

This card is super simple to make using heart dies or a digital cutting machine. I used my Silhouette Cameo because I don’t have any large heart dies. I know I should be put in card making jail! I’m planning on getting the Hero Arts Nested Heart Dies soon. Let’s talk about the best ways to do die cut inlays.

Die Cut Inlay Heart Card

It makes no difference if you use the negative piece for this method or not. I like to use this method for die cut inlay because it allows me to pop up the piece if I want to without adding bulk. It’s also a way to make the peice more stable.

I grab a piece of typing paper or scrap paper and I adhere each of the pieces to the scrap paper. Usually, I like to use liquid adhesive for this but you can also add a bunch of tape runner to the scrap paper in the area that you’re using. For this card, I started in the middle and worked my way out.

A simple die cut inlay like this doesn’t take much time. The more complex the die cut, the more time it takes to complete.

Once, all of the pieces are adhered to the scrap paper trim off the extra paper. Hold your scissors at an angle and cut just a tiny bit back away from the edge. You don’t want to see the scrap paper.

If you want to adhere the die cut inlay directly to your card base, do the same thing but leave out the cutting around the outside part.

This method is exactly the same no matter if you use regular dies or a digital die cutting machine.

I’ve included a bunch of various heart dies in the products list below so if you’re like me and don’t have any heart dies you can quick pick one out.
