Hello! For today’s 30 Days of Cards, we are creating a simple card with a bold impact. Black and rainbow butterflies! Also, I’m demonstrating how to create the rainbow background really quickly using Copic markers.

The products used in this card are linked at the bottom of this article.

Black & Rainbow Butterflies with Copic Markers

First I created the background for the butterflies. I used the chisel tip of my Copic markers to draw straight lines across a panel of Neenah Solar White 80lb cardstock. (Watch the video to learn more about why I like 80lb instead of 110lb.)

I didn’t want to use ink blending for this because it would be very time consuming to create the lines as thin as I wanted them. The butterfly images are pretty small so I needed to keep the lines pretty thin.

Next, I stamped the butterflies in black dye ink on the rainbow background. I used an anti-static powder bag all over the background and then stamped the in the same spots with Versamark ink. Then, I coated each of the butterflies in clear embossing powder and heat set each of them. I used the coordinating dies to cut out each of the stamped butterfly images.

The background panel was created using a stamp from the Catherine Pooler’s Bee Kind set. I wanted the background to be subtle so I used Altenew’s Sea Glass ink.

Next, I stamped the sentiment on black cardstock using Versamark ink and then coated it in white embossing powder. And I popped it up on the front of the card.

Each butterfly is popped up on the front of the panel using foam tape. As a final touch, I used gold pearls as accents across the front.
